3 Secrets to Picking the Best Affiliate Offers to Promote

Here’s one thing the super affiliate marketers do differently than everyone else: they know how to pick a good product to promote.

You see, choosing the wrong affiliate offer can ruin your online business and destroy your reputation.

Do you think your subscribers will still trust you if you recommend a shoddy product or a scamming vendor? Not a chance.

That’s why I ensure that I protect my reputation and my online business by only promoting high-quality products put out by reputable vendors.

In fact, these 3 simple steps I outline below have ensured that I don't pick a lemon or affiliate myself with shady vendors. They've made all the difference to the success of my online business in recent years.

Although these tips may seem like common sense, plenty of people overlook them – I just wish someone had shared them with me much earlier in my online journey.

So let’s do that for you right now and fast-track your own success journey to becoming a top affiliate marketer.

Step #1 – Review the Product

It doesn’t matter if every other affiliate in the niche is raving about a product or that their sales page is as slick as a whistle and that the commissions are eye-popping…

I simply won't promote it to my list if I haven’t first reviewed, bought and used it myself (remember, it's a business expense and tax deductible in most countries).

So – if the product is helping or benefiting me in some way and I've become a raving fan of it myself...

And – if it's something I feel I can't be without and my only regret is that I didn't know about it earlier...

And – if I want to shout it from the roof tops and let the whole world know what I've found...

Then – that's a product I will affiliate myself with and start promoting to my subscribers... nothing else short of this will do!

Step #2 – Review the Sales Funnel

The large majority of online product vendors want to do everything they can to make sure their affiliates are happy. But then there is this minority of vendors who are sneaky as hell.

They are so shady they’d steal commissions from their own mother. And that’s why you need to watch your back. After all, if they’d steal from you, just imagine how they’ll treat your subscribers.

To ensure I don't fall pray to such vendors, I check out the sales page, review the order form, follow every link and go through the entire sales funnel process. And while I am doing this, I watch for these three things:

  • Unnecessary sales page leaks, such as links leading off the page. In particular, I look for ads to other products that don't give me affiliate credit.
  • Alternative payment methods on the order form that don’t give me affiliate credit. This could be another payment processor, or even a number for telephone orders.
  • Hijacked commissions. The most nefarious vendors will actually overwrite your affiliate link with their own. I go through the ordering process to ensure I get credit for all sales.

In short, I look for anything that could stifle sales or hijack my commissions.

Step #3 – Review the Vendor

OK – The product looks great... the sales page looks good. Time to promote?

Not quite.

Now I research the vendor to ensure they're not going to treat me or my subscribers poorly. So I drop the vendor's name into my favorite search engine and do some research. I look for a pattern of complaints such as:

  • Slow or otherwise poor customer service.
  • Not honoring a guarantee/refund policy.
  • A history of not paying business partners (or paying them slowly).

I just look for anything that might suggest the vendor may try to rip me or my subscribers off – and if I see even one tiny red flag, I move on.

Conclusion

The bottom line is that as an affiliate of a vendor promoting their products, I'm linking my reputation to the reputation of that product and vendor.

That’s why I need to ensure that I hitch my business to good, honest people and products.

Now this may all seem like common sense, but plenty of people overlook these steps.

In fact, there are a whole lot more (simple) things like this that affiliate marketers overlook when choosing which products to promote and which vendors to affiliate themselves with – and then they wonder why they can’t seem to sell more than one or two products a month.

Don’t let this happen to you. Follow these shortcuts to affiliate marketing success and do it the right way – the profitable way!
